Environmental Compliance

Environmental compliance doesn’t just happen. It requires carefully designed programs to train employees, monitor performance, and recognize results.

Training

Cargill Steel employees receive training required to perform their jobs in an environmentally sound manner. In addition, employees of ISO 14001 certified are trained in and audited for understanding of the company’s Environmental Policy and how it applies to their jobs.

Environmental Incident Reporting

Each facility is required to report to environmental noncompliance and near misses, inspections, complaints and enforcement notices promptly to company management, and key environmental measures monthly.

Environmental Compliance Auditing

All Cargill Steel facilities are subject to formal compliance audits at least once every three years. Informal compliance assessment of all facilities is conduct routinely on shorter intervals.

Corporate Operations-Environmental Review Team

Environmental performance is subject to review by the Corporate Operations-Environmental Review Team. This team consists of our most highly skilled operations, environmental management, technical, and legal resources. The team focuses on development of best practices and preventive strategies, ensuring that required resources and aggressive schedules are in place for matters under its purview.

Performance Monitoring

Environmental performance is monitored through formal reporting of incidents, key environmental measures, compliance audits, energy usage, waste minimization, and progress toward environmental goals.

Recognition

Annual performance of Cargill Steel facilities and supervisors is reviewed against a handful of basic measures, one of which is environmental performance. Performance against these measures affect base salary and incentive compensation of all employees.
